In 2004, Ethos purchased commercial property located
at 10 N. Killingsworth. When purchased, the building was in need of drastic
repair. As a boarded up old halfway house, senior employees recall the
neglected building littered with used syringes, dead animals, and garbage. Through the generous support of the community, Ethos was able to transform
the building which now houses 13 classrooms, a café, office space, a
community garden, and a recital hall.
To celebrate the 10 year anniversary of the
organization, Ethos is embarking on a modest capital campaign to continue
the second phase of Ethos’ renovations.
The Sound Investments for Youth Capital Campaign,
is marked by three areas of focus:
Accessibility. Ethos students and families come
from all walks of life. Some of our students have physical impairments that
require assistance to get to and from class. To ensure that Ethos is able to
accommodate all of our students and families, Ethos hopes to build an ADA
approved elevator.
Sustainability. Ethos understands the importance
of environmental stewardship. Through installing solar paneling, new
windows, insulation, and new siding, the organization will significantly
lower heating and cooling costs. Ethos also hopes to lessen the
organization’s carbon footprint.
Tomorrow. The Sound Investments for Youth
Capital Campaign will allow the organization to pay off the mortgage on
the North Portland headquarters. This step will create a lasting future for
Ethos, ensuring that future generations will have equal access to music
education.
How You Can Help
Ethos Music Center is a community based organization. Without the support of thousands of parents, neighbors, and friends, Ethos
would be unable to continue offering music education to Oregon’s school-aged
children.
Your tax deductible contribution, regardless of the
size, will bring us one step closer towards a making Sound Investment for
