Rural Outreach Program (ROP) Music Facilitators
Locations:
Rural communities across Oregon, such as Wallowa, Depoe Bay, Dayville, Monument, and Wolf Creek, Oregon.
Summary of Position:
Ethos’ AmeriCorps Rural Outreach Program (ROP) members will primarily be responsible for teaching music to school aged youth during and after school four to five days per week in target communities that would not otherwise have music programming. ROP members will live in the communities and assist in training and supervising local volunteers. Ethos is currently seeking to fill Full-Time positions (1720 hours over 11 months), Three-Quarter-Time positions (1295 hours over 11 months), and Half-Time positions (920 hours over 6 or 11 months) for the 2024-25 school year. All positions report to the Rural Outreach Program Director. Degrees in Music or Education are preferred but not required.
Essential Responsibilities:
1. Teach general music classes to pre-kindergarten through sixth grade students.
2. Teach elective music courses at the middle and high school level.
3. Organize and/or teach after-school individual and/or group instrument or vocal lessons.
4. Recruit and train community members to be volunteer teaching assistants.
5. Encourage and track youth, volunteer, and parent involvement in all activities.
6. Attend Ethos and AmeriCorps sponsored orientations, training, and meetings.
7. Complete and submit in a timely manner all Ethos and AmeriCorps required reports and time sheets.
8. Complete 1700 hours of service over 11 months (full) - 1295 hours of service over 8-11 months (three quarter time) - 900 hours of service over 6-11 months (half).
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Organize student performances, community music events, and community classes in each town.
2. Consult with staff on recruitment and long-term programming plans.
Required Qualifications:
1. Must have experience working with youth.
2. Must consent to and pass FBI background checks.
3. Must have reliable transportation.
4. Must go through the AmeriCorps member application process, with support from Ethos.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Proficiency or familiarity with an instrument or vocal music at a beginning accompanying level.
2. Strong organizational skills, creativity, resourcefulness, and self-motivation.
Pay and Benefits:
For Full-Time Members: A minimum of $19-$21,000 living allowance ($1,727-$1,909 per month) over an 11-month term of service. An education award of $7,395 upon completion of service, to pay tuition or student loans.
For Three-Quarter-Time Members: A minimum of $14,250-$15,750 living allowance ($1,295-$1,431 per month) over an 11-month term (other term lengths available). An education award of $5,546 upon completion of service, to pay tuition or student loans.
For Half-Time Members: An $9,500-10,500 living allowance ($863-$954 per month) over a 6-month or 11-month term of service. An educational award of $3,697 upon completion of service, to pay tuition or student loans.
